Made mostly from a field blend of indigenous varieties, with a small portion of Touriga Nacional and Alfrocheiro, and aged for 2 years in French oak.

Cracked pepper, violets, rose petal, orange zest and dark fruit on this intensely aromatic wine. On the palate this has a rich mouth-feel and satin-like texture with the aromas becoming even more intense flavors.

Today the Dão is probably the best place in Portugal to find fresher aromatic styles of wines made from one of the many interesting Portuguese indigenous grape varieties. Alvaro Castro is widely acknowledged as the region’s best winemaker. His vines are between 3 and 65 years old, planted at an average of 500 metres above sea level. Soils are granite with rows of sand and clay, and climate is Continental.

Grapes are hand-picked and fermentation occurs in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks. Wine ages for 24 months in second year Allier oak barrels before bottling.
